12 Team PPR IDP Dynasty League, Round 1

Since news is slow (besides the Packers accusing the Vikings of tampering with Brett Favre which by the way will be next to impossible to prove and will only drive the wedge between the franchise QB and Green Bay even further), I figured I'd divulge the results and my thought process as I delve into a new 12 Team PPR IDP Dynasty League. I really tried hard to avoid jumping into any other leagues this year, but since I've become a regular member of the Rotoworld Forums, I thought that was a good enough excuse to join one more.

Yesterday we kicked off the start of the draft and I drew the 7 spot. The first six picks went as follows:

1. Gang Green- Adrian Peterson (MIN_- RB)
2. Cereal Killers- Steven Jackson (STL- RB)
3. Crinkle Crinkle- Ladanian Tomlinson (SD- RB)
4. Bad News Kennels- Joseph Addai (IND- RB)
5. Go Cheeseheads!- Tom Brady (NE- QB)
6. The Longest Yard- Brian Westbrook PHI-RB)

Landing Brian Westbrook at 1.06 was definitely a great pickup especially considering this is a PPR league with 1 pt per reception. Obviously turning 29 this season made the Bad News Kennels and Go Cheeseheads question making him a cornerstone of a new dynasty team. Joseph Addai is younger and does posses the receiving skills so his selection at 1.04 is not that surprising. Nor is the selection of Tom Brady after his career 2007 season. He's only 30 years old and should be able to give his owner at least 4-5 seasons of solid production.

Facing my pick at 1.07 there were four names on my short list. Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, Clinton Portis and Marion Barber.

All four options were young and our all considered top 10 running backs going into this year.

Marion Barber was the first to be crossed off the list since he isn't a primary back. He'll have to contend with rookie Felix Jones and that was enough for me to nix him.

Marshawn Lynch was the next to go due to his lack of receptions. Head Coach Dick Juaron promises to keep Lynch in the game on third downs this year which should increase those totals, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Clinton Portis was tempting since he's only 26 and will reportedly be the focus of the offense in Washington, but he's had over 1700 carries already in his career.

Then there's Frank Gore. Gore is coming off a tough year but was still able to finish in the top 10 which is nothing short of amazing. Mike Martz comes to town and has publicly declared that the offense will run through The Inconvenient Truth, hopefully turning him into the second coming of Marshall Faulk. He's one year younger than Portis but has 1,000 less carries in his career.

With the 7th overall pick, TheEndzoneView selected:
FRANK GORE, RB SAN FRAN

The rest of the round went like this:
8. NWA- Randy Moss (NE- WR)
9. Stifler- Marion Barber (DAL- RB)
10. Ace n the Hoe- Clinton Portis (WAS- RB)
11. ChuckNorrisApproves- Peyton Manning (IND- QB)
12. Strike Force- Marshawn Lynch (BUF- RB)

Ten players will be selected after my pick and we can safely assume that at least six will be running backs, three will be wide receivers and probably one quarterback will be gone. So as it comes back to me for my second pick, which position or player do you think I should target? You can reply here or e-mail me at endzoneview@yahoo.com

You're exactly right. I loved Westy last year, but...Dynasty means the fresher legs and the younger runners. So I had to take Addai.

I was happy to see you joined. I value your opinion.

I think another reason why Westbrook slipped was health concerns.

Gore is a very solid pick, but I really am high on Barber. I would've have selected Barber over Gore. Yeah MB will be in a committee but he'll get at least 70% of the carries. And he has the knack for the end zone.

But Gore is interesting this year, he has a chance to get lots of receptions under Martz.

Great pick getting Gore! He is my keeper player in my fantasy league and is prime to have a huge year with Martz in SF. The 49ers will have a much improved passing attack, taking pressure off the running game and opening holes. Moving T Joe Staley to LT, rookie G Chilo Rachel, and depth at RT with Jonas Jennings and Barry Sims will also be a huge improvement. Nice pick!
